28 Hours To Go, 354 Likes, Editing Film, Deathrock Book Almost a Hardcover

I posted this update about editing the film to our California Deathrock book Kickstarter pages and I wanted to share it here too. I eventually did find the needed art pencils. They were in a pencil drawer, along with an inexplicable neurological pinwheel.

Forrest and I are getting ready to start going through contact sheets today. Thanks to our awesome backers, we know we are definitely going to be able to do the book, so we want to get a head start on editing film.

It has been so long since I got to work with negatives and contact sheets that I am having trouble finding any of my grease art pencils to mark the contact sheets with. I’m still hopeful that a search will uncover my stash, but I might have to go get a couple from the camera store. Hopefully they still carry traditional tools.

We’re going to try both the library and a coffeehouse with big tables and see which is more comfortable to go through contact sheets in.

Thanks so so so much to everyone who has supported this project so far. If we hit $2,200, the book is definitely going to be hardcover and it seems promising that it will.

California Deathrock Book Kickstarter
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ameliag/california-deathrock-book

The really big news is that a book of Forrest Black and Amelia G’s deathrock portraiture is going to be published. There are four days left in the Kickstarter pledge period and the project has already succeeded and will definitely be funded. Pledge now and Amazon won’t charge for the California Deathrock book until the pledge period is complete.

Forrest and Amelia will also thank you in print in the book, if you pledge now. Please note that, once the book is published, it should be available via Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but the retail price is expected to be significantly higher than the Kickstarter price. Cool people who Forrest and Amelia have photographed will probably be able to get the book for wholesale pricing later, but that will be around the Kickstarter amount and without the mention in the book dedication. And it would be ever so helpful and awesome if you could get those pledges in now to make sure the book is a hardcover and has the best possible art book paper and most possible pages.

I Am On A Fire Truck (PIC)

The brand new firehouse on Hollywood Boulevard had its inauguration party and open house today. I ate hot dogs and potato chips and checked out the fire trucks. Everyone over there seemed really nice. A genuinely pleasant neighborly vibe. They had some kind of awesome bounce house stuff, with mini bounce columns inside the bounce house, but I acted like an adult, I swear. I hope the new fire engine proximity will not mean excessive siren action, but hopefully they will get the hang of where they need to be loudest and where they don’t in the neighborhood. And my place will definitely never burn down now. One of my neighbors used to be a fireman and we got excellent response time from the old firehouse, but the new one could pretty much put a fire in my place out . . . without having to exit their driveway.

Today we start editing film!

Forrest and I are getting ready to start going through contact sheets for our California Deathrock project today. Thanks to our awesome backers, we know we are definitely going to be able to do the book, so we want to get a head start on editing film.

It has been so long since I got to work with negatives and contact sheets that I am having trouble finding any of my grease art pencils to mark the contact sheets with. California Deathrock Behind-the-Scenes Photo Shoot Video

May 22, 2012 | Filed underBooks,Headline,Personalities,Video | Posted by Amelia G

It was hard to make this video happen because working on it was giving me the hugest spasm of shyness. Fortunately, Forrest Black and I still managed to bust it out. So now you can see behind-the-scenes footage of what our nightlife portraiture shoots look like, as part of the Kickstarter for our California Deathrock book project.

I love the idea of doing a creative project where I know how many to print beforehand. The way Kickstarter is set up, people pledge to get a copy of the book, but Amazon only charges them after the funding period is complete (in this case the end of the first week of June) and then only if the project is 100% funded. So far, our photo book project is 88% funded, so it looks like it is going to happen, which I am super happy and more than a little relieved about.

Special thanks to Death Guild and Release the Bats where some of this video was shot. Much love to Margo, Satoki, Thee Gabe, Domiana, Kat, Thistle (RIP), Talia, Christian, Jenn Bats, Dave Bats, Shane Taleda, Matt Riser, Eva O, and everyone else in the contact sheets and photos and video footage.

Anyway, just push play already please πŸ™‚

Happy New Year and a Fabulous Forthcoming 2012
http://twitter.com/BlueBlood
http://www.blueblood.com/news/
Blue Blood has so much going on that it is a good idea to follow the Blue Blood Twitter for up-to-the-minute info. In 2012, Blue Blood has a bunch of cool party sponsorships coming up, some very exciting print projects, and the launch of Blue Blood Fleshlights kicking off with the lovely lady parts of Nicotine and Misti Dawn. As we both gear up for the future and reflect on this past year, here are some of the highlights of 2011:

BlueBlood.net Re-Design
http://www.blueblood.net/
You have probably noticed that BlueBlood.net got a spiffy new look in 2011. There are lots of new articles and new conversations. Music videos, cool style, and pop culture deconstructions. Come say hello and participate in intelligent counterculture debate and hotness πŸ™‚

2011 APN Awards Nominations and Wins
Blue Blood received a flattering number of nominations and took home half a dozen wins from the APN Awards, including Best Gothic Update for Razor Candi/GothicSluts, Best Nerd Update for Nicotine/EroticFandom, Best Site Re-Design for Forrest Black/GothicSluts, and Best Alternative Photography for Amelia G and Forrest Black. The sites received a number of other nominations for various awards over the course of the year, but it felt extra-good to be recognized in such important wins from awards run by people who really get it. The Blue Blood crew is looking forward to the 2012 awards.

Hustler Interviews Amelia G and Nicotine
http://www.blueblood.com/news/2011/12/what-is-steampunk/
Hustler magazine ran an interview with Amelia G and Nicotine in a feature on steampunk. “What the Heck is Steampunk?” was also illustrated with photography by Amelia G and Forrest Black. This is in the February issue, on newsstands now.

Gothic.net Panel of Experts
http://www.gothic.net/tag/panel-of-experts/
Gothic.net began running a series of features with a Panel of Experts interviewed on various horror and gothic-related topics. Blue Blood notables on the Panel include Amelia G, John Shirley, Will Judy, Forrest Black, Cecilia Tan, Thomas S. Roche, Ed Mironiuk, Eric Swartz, and Chad Savage.

Marquis #51
http://www.blueblood.com/news/2011/06/marquis-51-alecia-joy-contortionist/
Marquis #51 hit German newsstands. For this issue, Amelia G and Forrest Black did their Big in America column on the exceedingly flexible Alecia Joy. This makes more than thirty issues in a row of Marquis, the highest circulation glossy fetish magazine in the world, which have featured work by Blue Blood’s Amelia G and Forrest Black.

Skating on Plastic, Snacks with Pals (PICS)

Forrest Black and I went to the W yesterday to have drinks with our pals Sarah and Tofu. Surreally enough, I arrived a little early and the front desk staff suggested I check out by the back bar . . . and it had an ice skating rink in it. Forrest said he thought the rink was maybe some sort of plastic which people could skate on, but I only processed the general bizarreness of seeing a skating rink in Los Angeles. I used to ice skate as a kid, so I thought about trying it, but I lived in cold climates a long time ago and I was daunted by how much I didn’t want to finish up the holiday season with any sort of hideous injury. I also thought it would suck to miss hanging out with Sarah and Tofu due to difficulty navigating a fake sheet of ice. Cue jokes about fake and plastic things in Los Angeles . . .

Misti Dawn and Michael Vegas (PICS)

Blue Blood’s world famous signature counterculture couples shoots are some of my favorite parts. Forrest Black and Misti Dawn and Michael Vegas and I got together for coffee before deciding to collaborate on this shoot. I am always cautious when someone has worked in Porn Valley, even if only briefly, but Misti Dawn and Michael Vegas are both delightfully warm and genuine and drama-free. With some folks, it is a challenge to get them to stay on pleasant topics during a shoot, but Misti Dawn and Michael Vegas are all good energy, funny anecdotes, and cool business stuff they are working on. We hung out afterwards on their patio. Forrest helped with their fire trough. Then we shot the breeze about geeky stuff and conventions. And Misti Dawn sent me home with a pumpkin pie she baked herself ’cause she had made six. I only wished we had done a zillion set-ups and shot for days because these two deserve to be immortalized every which way.

Gothic.net Panel of Experts – BDSM in Horror

bdsm in horror

Gothic.net has posted a new installment of the Panel of Experts and the current question is: Does a storyline seem more or less frightening to you, when BDSM themes are included, such as those in Hellraiser or Ichi the Killer? Besides yours truly, some other Blue Blood notables on the Panel include John Shirley, Will Judy, Forrest Black, Cecilia Tan, Thomas S. Roche, Ed Mironiuk, Eric Swartz, and Chad Savage.

For me, the relatability and familiarity of some of the BDSM aspect . . .

Rubber Bustle Dress Couture (PICS)

This is the 23rd appearance Lydia Ivy West has made in the Blue Blood VIP. Forrest Black and I shot this in San Francisco and latex couturier Polly Pandemonium was kind enough to donate this fabulous bustle dress for the shoot.

I haven’t shot in San Francisco in way too long and haven’t been there since December. I’d really like to spend some time in SF soon. I’d also like a new camera. Some new easier to carry lights. And a pony. Pony optional. I think Ivy has a horse, now that I think about it.

San Francisco wild babes are especially invited to fill out the model app at BlueBloodPhoto.com

Happy Birthday Forrest Black BOOM Holiday Party

If you are in Los Angeles and looking for something to do tonight (or just interested in stalking me), I plan to be at the BOOM Comics holiday party at Meltdown Comics this evening.

BOOM Holiday Party 2010 Meltdown Comics

Beforehand, I am going to learn to make red velvet cake because it is Forrest Black’s birthday. Red velvet cake has all sorts of weird non-cakelike ingredients. These include, but are not limited to, buttermilk, vinegar, and cream cheese. Everyone wish Forrest Black a happy birthday . . .

Steampunk Nicotine Lady Clankington (PICS)

nicotine with lady clankington little death ray raygun photography by amelia g and forrest black for blue blood

I’m really happy Blue Blood is able to publish this special Erotic Fandom shoot by yours truly and Forrest Black. It stars Nicotine, making her fourth Blue Blood appearance, wearing couture from our long-time friends at Brute Force Studios, and showing off one of the new line of steampunk rayguns from Lady Clankington. Special thanks to The Death Knight for the kickass steampunk location. Whole series available in the Blue Blood VIP and well worth it, if I do say so myself. Watch for an interview with the lovely Nicotine coming up. Forrest Black also shot some video of Nicotine and the raygun’s creator demonstrating proper product, uhm, placement. Check out the photos and you’ll be able to tell where we took a break from shooting them and did the video part and then came back to the photography portion of the show. I think this is a really fabulous shoot and I’m really happy to get to share it with you all.

Busty Corset Vamp Dahlia Dark (PICS)

This is beautiful busty vamp Dahlia Dark‘s 12th appearance in the Blue Blood VIP.

Other images Forrest Black and I shot of Dahlia Dark ran in Marquis magazine in print, but Blue Blood VIP members get to see complete shoots.

I’d write more about this shoot, but I’m in the middle of cooking a chicken right now. Priorities, priorities.
