You better BELIEVE I am not filling out the census form

by Amelia G : May 4th, 2010

us census form believe 2010 privacy concernsI am registered to vote and I have a drivers license, but I have not received a census form in the mail. Instead, a man buzzed my security system yesterday, gave me his name, said he was from the census, and asked to enter my home. I hung up. So he buzzed again repeatedly. Eventually, he figured out some other way of getting into my security building and started banging on my door for an extended time period. I had to wait for him to go away, so I could go buy an organic onion to complete a recipe I was cooking. From the help wanted signs posted around Los Angeles, I believe the government is paying $17 an hour to have unwelcome strangers knock on my door. I think a 44 cent stamp would be a way more economically responsible way to get me to not fill out the census form. And don’t even get me started on how, if we can file taxes electronically, it ought to be feasible, cheaper, and more effective to use an online system to count everyone.

Why don’t I give my data to the census? The first time I was ever asked to fill out a census form was when I was living in a townhouse with 13 punk rockers. I was afraid . . .

Why is nobody but Arizona addressing the illegal alien and werewolf problems?

Why is nobody but Arizona addressing the illegal alien and werewolf problems?

by Amelia G : April 30th, 2010

gia paloma easter bunny julie simonePolitico reports that yesterday the Arizona state legislature has passed a bill making it a felony to “intentionally or knowingly creating a human-animal hybrid.” Well, phew, because I was definitely afraid, with all the military contractors out there, that, instead of working on lucrative mining and fiberoptics, mad scientists were diligently slaving away trying to create commercially useless human-animal hybrids. Aside from Annette Edwards, who might want to marry a human-rabbit hybrid, is there really a market for such things?

I realize Arizona has recently passed legislation making it legal to do live reenactments of World War II movies (Show me yahr paperrrrsssssssss!) and they have taken an important stand against the creation of werewolves. Plus Arizona doesn’t practice daylight savings time (which is inconvenient for people phoning from other states, but otherwise awesome). And Arizona not only doesn’t recognize so-called gay marriage, but passed a state constitutional amendment banning it, just to be safe (which is unbelievably evil and I don’t get why we don’t just call it marriage and not “gay marriage”). Arizona also has some gun laws paying tribute to its Wild West heritage (which I kinda like, but totally understand why reasonable people would dislike.)

So I get it. Arizona is maverick. Arizona marches to the beat of its own tom-tom. (Maybe some of those Native American museums in Arizona should also start asking for some details about . . .

Doing It Like a Rabbit – A Really Big Rabbit with a Cartoon Girlfriend

Doing It Like a Rabbit – A Really Big Rabbit with a Cartoon Girlfriend

by Amelia G : April 30th, 2010

annette edwards jessica rabbit giantThe Inquisitr reports that one Annette Edwards of Worcester, UK is the world record holder for breeding the largest bunny rabbit, a Continental Giant named Darius. This would be more newsworthy if Annette Edwards had not also bred Alice, the rabbit Darius took the title from now that he is longer than four foot three inches. This would be less newsworthy if rabbit breeder extraordinaire Annette Edwards had not also undergone plastic surgery to look as much like Jessica Rabbit as possible.

For those of you wondering who Jessica Rabbit is, she was the va-va-voom girlfriend of the accused cartoon bunny in the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was ground-breaking in its mix of live action from human actors and animation from Toon Town. Director Robert Zemeckis has made extensive pioneering use of special effects technology in a spectrum of movies including Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Death Becomes Her, Polar Express, and Beowulf. In Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Roger’s honey Jessica is a curvy redhead who claims she is not bad; she is just drawn that way. Jessica has a sexy smoky voice, probably voiced by an oddly uncredited Kathleen Turner, and exactly what you’d expect from a dame in a noir frame-up. So anyway, that is who Annette Edwards is channeling with her plastic . . .

Why is MySpace shooting itself in the foot blocking so many sites?

I know social media pundits are all going on about what is causing MySpace to falter and a lot of the blame is being placed on Facebook and a bit on Twitter, but I think the difficulties come from within the way MySpace manages its own FOX Interactive properties. Their biz dev people really ought to be paying less attention to what Facebook and Twitter are up to and more attention to how they themselves are doing business.

For example, why is MySpace blocking so many sites? There is no point to me having 60k+ “friend” on there, if half the sites I might want to post a link to — including my personal site — are blocked and maligned as a matter of some sort of policy. I thought the site concept was a profile which was supposed to be *MY*space, so what the heck is up with MySpace calling lots of links “spam” or “phishing” or some such nonsense, when that’s false to a libelous degree? Sooner or later, someone is probably going to take them to court for this sort of libel and a class action could even be put together. And, really, what is the benefit to MySpace?

And don’t tell me they are blocking mild nudity because I totally see straight up adult sites with *full* nudity posting their actual updates on here, with no impediment.

Story of My Life

Story of My Life

by Amelia G : April 30th, 2010

rielle hunter oprah story of my life jay mcinerneyBecause Rielle Hunter was the interviewee, I watched Oprah on TiVo last night. It was only my second time watching Oprah because I’ve always believed that she was one of those things like chick lit which turn women into the weaker sex. I think I’ve been mistaken on this because, in point of fact, Oprah is an impressive nuanced interviewer, with a brilliant balance of coming across compassionate enough for her subjects to reveal themselves, without seeming like she is ever just giving someone a pass for bad behavior or opinions either. </p>

The obvious question, when someone like John Edwards betrays his marriage in a way which is so dangerous for his career, is why, even if he was unhappy, why? I was interested to see how Rielle Hunter came across on Oprah because she is obviously a set-the-world-on-fire compelling woman. I know most of the country is interested in Rielle Hunter (if they are interested in Rielle Hunter) because of her affair (and possible sex tape) with presidential candidate John Edwards. I must confess, however, that my interest is as a huge Jay McInerney fan.

Before he was a famous novelist and short story writer, Jay McInerney was a remarkable New York city scenester who cut quite a swathe through society, literary, nightclub, and fashion circles with his very successful womanizing. He is currently . . .

South Park Creators Killed

South Park Creators Killed

by Amelia G : April 22nd, 2010

south park 200 201 episode towelieAll I really wanted was an Okama Gamesphere, but, instead, the 200th and 201st episodes of South Park were an uneasy mishmash of most of the characters from past shows. The most noticeable absences were Chef and Towelie. No Terrance and Philip either, I think, but no loss there. As Isaac Hayes left over, as I recall, a dispute over Scientology, that probably makes sense, but forgetting Towelie the day after 4/20 seems like a bit of an oversight. Vernon Chatman, who provides the voice of the stoned towel, did work on South Park episode 200 as both a producer and a voice. I have no idea where I’m going with the Towelie tangent.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking South Park really got its mojo back with episodes like the burn-Hot-Topic-down story The Ungroundable and the Facebook send-up You Have 0 Friends. The kinda non-story storyline of marching out pre-used characters for episode 200 and 201 was only made more excruciating with the censored out drawing of Mohammad and being dragged out to two weeks. The idea of a CENSORED block over the Mohammad drawing was kind of humorous, but the 201 edition even bleeped the name Mohammad, as well as the episode wrap-up I-learned-something-today speech. WTF? Matt Stone and Trey Parker explained the . . .

Pornstar Little Lupe Courtroom Drama Saves Fan

Pornstar Little Lupe Courtroom Drama Saves Fan

by Amelia G : April 16th, 2010

little lupe fuentes fleshlight pornstar courtroom dramaAlthough the photo at the right does not show her in a red cape with boots, Lupe Fuentes should really be wearing a Mighty Mouse costume right about now. Last week, she flew from Spain to Puerto Rico to give crucial testimony on behalf of her fan Carlos Simon-Timmerman.

See Carlos Simon-Timmerman took a trip to Venezuela and made the error in judgment of buying a DVD called Little Lupe The Innocent, Don’t be Fooled by her Baby Face . . . at a flea market. On his way back to New York, he was arrested during a stopover in San Juan and his DVDs were seized. A flea market pirate DVD is not likely to have a lot of information on the packaging about who produced the videos or photos or how to get in touch with them. So Carlos Simon-Timmerman spent months in jail, awaiting trial on charges of possessing and transporting child pornography, crimes which could result in a twenty year stretch in prison. Fortunately for him, Assistant Public Defender Héctor L. Ramos-Vega and his legal team know that the thing MySpace is most effective for is getting in touch with pornstars. They contacted Lupe Fuentes aka Zuleidy Lapiedra aka Little Lupe and she agreed to come to Puerto Rico.

Lupe Fuentes was really the last hope the defense . . .
