The folks from Calamity Ware are doing their 10th Kickstarter. Artist Don Moyer is known for making traditional white China with a blue glaze and outlandish designs. I kinda love that, at first glance, the items are traditional and wholesome. But, upon closer examination, you find monsters and…( Read more )

I just did the paperwork to order a replacement for the Wesleyan University BA with Honors diploma I threw out many years ago. I tossed it for a few reasons:
(1) It had gotten water damage and was literally growing gross green mold.
(2) Apparently writing an honors thesis and being a TA as an undergrad and all those great grades and being able to handle literally a double courseload my last year, along with lots of extracurriculars . . . well, it didn’t seem like the whole package had turned out to equal anything terribly valuable for what it cost.
(3) The woman at the Wesleyan registrar’s office was a total rude little tyrant when I called to find out about getting it switched up. I told her that, when I made my first million, I was going to start sending the alumni fund copies of my tax returns with her name attached, but, alas, I don’t recall her name. I do remember that she told me she had just refused to help a nun with the same problem, so she surely wasn’t going to help me.
(4) Punk rock.
(5) Seriously, it was growing green mold in the basement of New Cambodia.
Lately, I have felt a bit like I am on a journey to reclaim the existence which should have been mine, should have been my birthright.
So, I’m feeling rather Daenerys Targaryen at the moment. Going to take back what is mine with fire and blood. And a $50 check and some notarized forms.
We shot this series of Darenzia, wearing her hot pink rubber dress, dominating Scar 13, on the same balcony I watched the Griffith Park fire from. Please cue all necessary hotness puns. You’ve got fire, how hot Darenzia is, how hot Scar is, the color hot pink, and fire to work with. I know I said fire twice; I like fire.
This set marks Darenzia’s 36th appearance in the Blue Blood VIP and Scar 13’s 97th. That is 1,900 photos of Darenzia and 6,743 of Scar. That is a lot of hot pictures by Forrest Black and yours truly, as well as a who’s who of other cool photographers, including Lori Mann, Kelly Lind, Chad Michael Ward, Christine Kessler, and more.
Los Angeles is covered in ash. Where I am in Hollywood, it is at least a fine layer of ash, as opposed to say a raging inferno or one of the areas where it will costs residents thousands of dollars to clean the ash out of their carpets and ventilation systems. Unfortunately I am kind of a delicate flower when it comes to physical adversity and, even running an air cleaner 24/7, my eyes and throat have been burning all week and I’ve felt sick for days.
Getting ready to post the images forrestblack and I shot during Vampire-Con at Vampirella’s Ball. I need to write a short article to accompany the photography, although I’ll have more coverage of the event on video later, so I don’t need to do the full report with this. I think it is awesome that professional event planners put together what I consider more of a proper fandom event in Los Angeles and that they did it on a topic so near and dear to my heart — vampires.
It is probably mostly just the normal biological response I’m having to the endless fires in Southern California, but I keep thinking about the parts which were difficult. I mean, a lot of what I do is really hard. Not like it might be tough for someone else to do, but like it is really a challenge for me personally. I just like to take challenges as head-on as possible. Always have.
I mostly enjoy this. Today I am just feeling a little bit like a ballerina with bleeding toes. But having our city covered in ash is probably supposed to make all Angelenos gothic.
