Blue Blood All Access Pass Call for Submissions (Paying Market)

I’m still reading for the sequel to Backstage Passes. Backstage Passes is a bit of a who’s who of cool fiction, with work from Poppy Z. Brite, Nancy A. Collins, John Shirley, Will Judy, Shariann Lewitt, Cecilia Tan, Andrew Greenberg, William Spencer-Hale, Althea Morin, Sèphera Girón, Thomas S. Roche, and more. I’d like to have a similarly talented rogue’s gallery of contributors in the forthcoming volume. Please feel free to pass this invitation to submit to all your brilliant friends and re-post to market reports.

Short version of what I’m looking for is: well-crafted fiction or memoir, cool erotica with music and/or music culture as a central theme, $50 first run + reprint rights, $25 reprints. More formal version below.

Call for Submissions: All Access Pass

Backstage Passes editor Amelia G is reading for a sequel to her anthology of rock and roll erotica, called All Access Pass. Below are general fiction guidelines for Blue Blood fiction projects. For this book in specific, music must play a central role in the story. Events could take place at a punk club or an outdoor festival, characters may be musicians, music may just really speak to a particular character, but it needs to be important. Stories ranging from balls-out memoir or entirely fantastical vampire sex are all fine, within the appropriate theme and quality standards.

When submitting electronically, please make the subject of your email ALL ACCESS PASS SUBMISSION.

Before sending anything over, please ask yourself if your work passes the Blue Blood litmus test: Is it intelligent? Is it sexy? Is it edgy/counterculture? Is it cool? Email electronic submissions to submit@blueblood.net For submissions of fiction or nonfiction text, please have your writing in a Word document with a .doc suffix (not .docx), RTF, TXT, InDesign, or Open Office format. It is preferred if you include an author bio or link to your website or online profiles.

The All Access Pass anthology is seeking erotic stories with a counterculture feel — Gothic, industrial, techno, rave, punk, metal, dyke, mystery, gangster, hard-boiled, science fiction, cyberpunk, steampunk, vampire, werewolf, medieval etc. At the moment, our needs are for stories primarily from a male or female heterosexual viewpoint, lesbian viewpoint, or female bisexual viewpoint. Often, we can also place male homosexual and gender bender stories in anthologies. We look for work between 2,000 and 7,500 words. Most accepted fiction is shorter than 4,000 words. Death and horror elements are acceptable so long as they do not prevent the piece from being sex-positive. Characters may die but not as part of the sexuality. Kinky is great — leathersex, bondage, vampirism etc. are all fine. Negative attitudes about sexuality are not fine. All sex must be consensual and arousing. PLEASE DO NOT SEND US STORIES PROMOTING NAZIS, RAPE, INCEST, OR THE SEXUALIZATION OF MURDER. NO SNUFF, RACISM, OR HOMOPHOBIA. If you can write genuinely arousing fiction which still works as a story, do contact us. Payment is net 60 on on-sale date and we generally purchase first worldwide rights (exclusive from acceptance to one year after publication) along with nonexclusive reprint rights.

As the year draws to a close, I am pleased to share that Backstage Passes has been a Dark Delicacies Bestseller. Dark Delicacies is perhaps the most famous horror books store in the world. For those of you in Southern California who would rather pick the book up in person, you can stop by the following address for a truly remarkable selection:

Dark Delicacies
3512 W Magnolia Blvd
Burbank, CA 91505

Kathleen Bradean, writing for the Erotica Readers & Writers Association, writes:

Stories like these still have the ability to confront and arouse. They may take you beyond your comfort zone. If the erotica you’ve read lately seems a little too safe, this is the anthology for you.

Amazon and Barnes & Noble online both have Backstage Passes on super sale for the end of the year. Check out the book links at Blue Blood Books for some great deals. Thanks everybody and have a great New Years!

My Backstage Passes anthology has been receiving some more nice press this week, so I thought I’d share.

fc etier ski mask backstage passes blogcritic blog criticBackstage Passes: An Anthology of Rock and Roll Erotica from the Pages of Blue Blood is currently the featured book review on BlogCritic.com. FC Etier, writing for Blog Critic, explains that his Aunt Maude used to describe authors like Irving Wallace as racy and say she had to put her ski mask on to read a particularly juicy book (for modesty’s sake.) I am extremely entertained that the reviewer provided a photograph of himself reading my Backstage Passes book, while wearing a ski mask. And BlogCritic.com offers a ski mask upsell near the write-up. FC Etier also says, “the words paint vivid images in the mind. Think of rainbows of hair coloring, lots of tattoos and piercing, scantily clad punk queens and of course, lots of sex.”

Domina Doll, writing for Pop My Cherry, writes:

. . . this collection of erotica that explores the dark passageways of music subculture has 17 sizzling stories by some of the biggest horror/goth/erotica writers in the genre including Poppy Z. Brite, Nancy A. Collins, Yon Von Faust, Sèphera Girón, Thomas S. Roche, John Shirley, Cecilia Tan, and more . . . What I fucking loved about this anthology. The authors in this collection are amazing story-tellers and the top of their genres. As a writer myself and someone who used to dabble in dark erotica, I have idolized many of these writers for years. While each has their own unique style, they all have a way of sinking their teeth into the meat of the story, fleshing out their often flawed angst-ridden characters and creating hot throbbing scenes that explore the dark and esoteric side of sex. Many different genres are explored from punk/gothic, dark erotica, horror/dark fantasy and every gender represented including creatures other-worldly and indefinable. The stories have diverse themes but are all woven together by the lustful threads of a rock n’ roll subculture featuring musicians, rock stars, groupies, nefarious lovers, occultists and blood-letters . . . Backstage Passes is a superb collection of edgy dark erotica—a sweaty heap of fuck-fiction laced with drug-induced deliriums and rituals of pain and pleasure, with rock star god worshipping goth sluts, leather-clad bad boys and demons who creep into your darkest dreams. Please pick up your copy of “Backstage Passes” at BlueBloodBooks.com and check out the editor at AmeliaG.com.

My Backstage Passes anthology has been receiving some nice press this week, so I thought I’d share. I’m so used to the speed of internet press at this point, that I am chomping at the bit with the turnaround time for print and for a project which requires more in-depth reading for journalists to cover it.</p>

Kitty Two, writing for AltPorn.net, described much of the Backstage Passes book as “extremely enjoyably depraved and romantic”.

Gram Ponante, America’s Most Beloved Porn Journalist, recommends reading Backstage Passes and Douglas Coupland’s Microserfs for a complete picture of life in the 1990’s:

“Backstage Passes,” an anthology of erotica written by and about the types of people you might see alternately sobbing or fighting in the front row of either a Danzig or Dead Can Dance concert, is . . .

Backstage Passes: An Anthology of Rock and Roll Erotica from the Pages of Blue Blood

Sorry I haven’t updated in a few days. I was scheduled to announce the release of my fabulous anthology Backstage Passes on Monday. But I was wracked with anxiety and inappropriate affect, so, instead of feeling celebratory about the awesomeness, I just mostly felt nervous and queasy. Excited contributors have all been emailing me for the past day to make sure all is well. Okay, that is probably an overshare. Let me start again.

I am pleased to announce that my book Backstage Passes: An Anthology of Rock and Roll Erotica from the pages of Blue Blood just came out. The stories explore different aspects of the eroticism of music subcultures. It’s got sexy literary fiction from all sorts of cool genre authors including Poppy Z. Brite, Nancy A. Collins, John Shirley, Will Judy, Shariann Lewitt, Cecilia Tan, Andrew Greenberg, William Spencer-Hale, Althea Morin, Sèphera Girón, Thomas S. Roche, and more. The book includes a story I wrote too, one of my only published fiction works where I wrote in the third person. I’m fortunate to have been able to work with so many great people.

The book won’t be available in stores until September, but you all can buy copies now from the Blue Blood Books site and get yours all early way before the general population can. It will make me feel all warm and gooey inside if you do.
