Torchwood Season 2 Very Out on DVD

Torchwood Season 2 Very Out on DVD

by Amelia G : September 28th, 2008

Torchwood BBCTorchwood season two came out on DVD last week. A lot of you have probably been watching it on BBC America, but, if you’ve missed this Doctor Who spin-off for adult fen, I definitely recommend picking up the DVDs. You can watch seasons one and two straight through in an orgy of science fiction consumption now.

If you are not familiar with Doctor Who, allow me to give you the basic overview. The Doctor is a regenerating, very long-lived, highly-curious, extremely intelligent womanizer from outer space. Gallifrey in the something or other nebula, if memory serves. The Doctor Who SF serial has been around for ages and gone through many iterations with different actors playing the man who invites strange women to come for a ride in his penis car TARDIS and see the world. And other worlds. In the past, present, and future. When they start to age, the dashing Time Lord ditches them. If guys sometimes being a little piggy towards their lady friends troubles you too much, you may want to go re-read some Ursula LeGuin instead of watching, but these BBC shows really are fun.

In the Christopher Eccleston Doctor and Billie Piper companion iteration of the show, the character of Captain Jack Harkness was introduced. Jack is a 51st century kinda guy, omnisexual and happy to make sexual conquests of men and women. For a while, Jack, the Doctor, and Rose travel together in the TARDIS on Doctor Who and, although it is never explicitly stated, the implication is that they are having hot three-way space-faring sex.

Although many of the earlier incarnations of Doctor Who were pretty cheesy in the effects department, the Russell T. Davies version is more pleasing to the eye and more convincing. He . . .

Pathology Out on DVD (Video Clips)

Pathology Out on DVD

by Amelia G : September 28th, 2008

Lakeshore Entertainment, the creators of Crank, are bringing us Pathology, now out on DVD. Crank is the sort of quality enjoyable-but-won’t-change-your-life movie that I’d expect Hollywood to put out tons of, but which actually rarely gets produced. The movie banked largely on the appeal of Jason Statham’s ability to project manly manliness and a simple but tight script. And it worked.

Pathology stars Milo Ventimiglia, best known for playing the intelligent and sensitive, yet brooding and multi-powered Peter on NBC’s Heroes. In Pathology, Milo Ventimiglia plays a brilliant med student who others are trying to lure into a deadly game of murder as only medical lab experts could commit it. I haven’t seen the flick yet, but, from what I hear, I expect that it is a good solid watch. And, with the world going to Hell in a hand-basket at the moment, we can all use all the pleasantly engrossing diversion we can get.

Check out our Pathology gallery courtesy of Fox, if you just think Milo Ventimiglia is cute. Watch the trailers to get more of a feel for the movie, but be forewarned they are redband trailers and contain some gorey R-rated material. In all fairness, I can’t personally decide if I think Milo Ventimiglia is a hottie and a half or I just have a thing for . . .

Computer gurus have suggestions?

So the deities of irony are basically mocking me with the computer problems I just started having.

My FireFox will crash itself when I am not even in the room.

Pages will take forever to load. Saving a Photoshop JPEG will take like ten minutes when it should be pretty much instant.

Everything I type lags way behind how fast I am typing it and sometimes drops letters or portions of sentences.

All MicroSoft Office products flicker unbearbably whenever I use them.

I prefer to write in Word, so this sucks a lot.

Task Manager does not appear to be working when I call it up. It just displays all funky and won’t let me use it to close much.

I keep having to hard boot and, when I do, on restart, SpyBot Search and Destroy keeps trying to delete a MicroSoft Office file called ctfmon.exe

Yes, I am fully aware or the irony in this happening right after I wrote an article praising MicroSoft.

Anyone have any ideas of what is wrong or how I can fix it?

So far, SpyBot, AdAware, Panda, and Malwarebytes have been unable to deal with it and Housecall refuses to load for some reason, claiming it does not work with my OS, when it has cleaned this specific machine with the same setup in the past. My computer is also claiming to feel MicroSoft support is a security risk.

How do you define GWC?

I wondered about this while reading a thread on a LARP site where people were discussing whether the economic downturn would decrease GWCs or give them an edge.

I think it is frustrating for any artist trying to get by to offer someone a totally fair and commercially viable rate and have them come back with the rate a GWC gave them. The whole point is that a GWC is not basing their rates or policies on being a professional artist, so, when paying a model a gajillion dollars an hour or whatever, a GWC does not have to factor in how little they will actually make from wherever the work is likely to be published. I do not think of GWC as meaning someone who is untalented or a beginner necessarily, just someone who is holding the camera for reasons which have little to do with the final image.

Dita Von Teese Wonderbra Launch (VIDEO)

Dita Von Teese Wonderbra Launch

by Amelia G : September 25th, 2008

Last week, superstar Dita Von Teese launched her Wonderbra special glamour collection. There was some scuttlebutt that her supposedly scandalous past was going to somehow mess up the deal. Personally, given that Dita Von Teese first became famous for her unique sexiness, I think the rumors that she might lose the Wonderbra campaign over it were either astroturf or more likely haters. Yes, that’s right, a beautiful woman who creates and really embodies her own individual style can go as naked and as naughty and as fetish as she likes and still have the world revolve around her. Dita Von Teese is simply a combination of someone who was special to begin with and also was willing to plan and work really really hard. Kudos to her. The video above has some info on the Sexy Science by Dita launch and the video below has the smashingly hot and fun commercial for the lingerie line. I haven’t tried any of it on yet, but . . .

Baby Sinead Gives Good Grammar Lesson (VIDEO)

Baby Sinead Gives Good Grammar Lesson

by Amelia G : September 23rd, 2008

Baby Sinead has some very helpful advice for those who might seek to pronounce the word bass. Especially if one is, for example, presenting on stage. Watch the video and find out how to do it right.

Just so ya know, if you pronounce is /beɪs/ or [beys], so it rhymes with ace, lace, debase, then it has to do with sounds which are low in range. If your pronunciation is more like /bæs/ or [bas], so it rhymes with ass, class, fail to pass, then it pertains to fish.

When I was little, my family went deep sea bass-fishing a couple of times. I was good at fishing, but the whole hooking living things aspect kinda bothered me. Bass can be a freshwater or ocean fish, although I do not know whether that makes much difference in flavor. It might be reasonable to assume it does. Fresh . . .
