So I just tried to buy something with paypal and got a message telling me I couldn’t, even though I’ve got money in the account. So I log in and get the following message:
“07/31/2003: After reviewing your site, and in accordance with Section 11 of the User Agreement, your account has been closed. Your funds will be held for 180 days from the date of your last accoun transaction. After 180 days, we will release your funds by either mailing a check to the address linked to the account or by bank transfer.”
After reviewing my site? Which site? We used to accept paypal subscriptions for GothicSluts.com and BarelyEvil.com, but we stopped offering that option ages ago. Never mind the fact that a paypal rep had met me at an adult convention and had courted me to use his service. Never mind that he had said they were committed to servicing accounts for adult products.
I know they have been hitting a lot of people recently, but it still bugs me to have it happen to me, especially when I haven’t been using paypal for some time for the stuff I would like to. Believe me, I would have liked to do an ebay magazine sale when I found out that my business bank was no longer in business. But it is against both ebay and paypal rules for me to sell back issues of Skin Two or Marquis or Leg World or Demonia or basically anything I might have. I also really think paypal could have told me what they objected to, instead of just nuking the account.
I guess I will be exploring some of the paypal alternatives I’ve been hearing about. Later on, I will post what I find out. For now, I think the link to visit is PayPalSucks.com.

After PayPal changed their rules about Mature Audiences auction payments, I was still able to sell adult magazines and videos on ebay, I just couldn’t accept PayPal as a form of payment. (And I’ve sold copies of Skin Two *outside* of the Mature Audiences section by listing them as “fashion” magazines.)
Of course, this was a month or two ago, so maybe their rules have changed since then…

oh paypal really sucks, they take a long time to do anything and they charge you per moviment a big percent, I wish it existed another easy method that did not fuck you that much! :((
oh by the way, do you own the spookylinks site? I sent many times to be a spookie hotie of the week but it seems its ages without being update, either the link bank 🙁

Yeah, under their old rules, I sold Skin Two in their art mags section, but I hear they are regularly looking at that section for people to suspend. I got suspended from ebay once for selling a couple of music and tat mags with The Genitorturers in them. Before that, I had sold hundreds of items and had a perfect rating. When you are suspended on ebay, you can not look up who you owe products to and it jacks everything up. Just wasn’t worth the headache.

I’m looking into the other options for sending and receiving money on a personal basis and I’ll post what I find out. Yup, http://www.spookylinks.com/ is indeed one of my babies. It is due for an V. 3.0 some time soon.

That’s good to know.

That is really crappy. Esp. since they didn’t tell you what was considered objectionable. I didn’t even know they followed the transactions that closely.
BTW, Hello! I added you a few weeks ago, thanx for adding back =)

Yea, paypal sucks…some people are using yahoo pay direct at http://paydirect.yahoo.com
I was thinking about it myself and checked the site briefly and didn’t see anything about a problem with adult stuff. I have no idea how it works, I didnt look into it that far, but I think it works like paypal.

Same thing happened to me, and this was a month before their deadline to remove adult sites, and I had removed Paypal from my site even a month before that! After sending several emails to them, they sent back canned responses, and then one day they gave my account back to me!
I think they just amass a list of websites that have used Paypal in the past, and they just close every person’s Paypal account just to be safe. Maybe then if you complain, they will look at your site and see…I also think they may have taken screen captures from a few months ago, or something like that, and have not updated their files yet. Fuckers. In their TOS, they state they can suspend your account whenever they want, for no reason, and freeze all your funds, indefinitely.

I wrote to the rep who pitched me to use PayPal for my sites, but he only comes in during the week and has been promoted above sales rep. So I’m not too optimistic about getting a response. I think that it is really creepy the way, on the internet, your money can give you opinions about what you want to buy or sell and can randomly decide not to be your money any more. Kind of the same weird thing with Visa and American Express. In the real world, you don’t go to the book store and have your bank card complain about your taste and then steal the money you were going to spend on books to buy crack or stocks for itself.
