So I’m thinking about posting parts of my shooting schedule in public. Like on the Blue Blood MySpace, using the calendar function.
I usually keep my shoot schedule shrouded in secrecy because there are certain pathetic individuals and companies which follow me around like their own personal cool hunter. Heck, if I say I’m going to my favorite nightclub, they want to hang signage there. So, if I say I’m excited about shooting someone, I have to deal with professional stalkers trying their hardest to shoot the model right when I am working with them or trying to fill them with booze or cocaine the night before.
Only it is easier for me to schedule people if we can both review what I’m already shooting. If I am coordinating with anyone else for a special location, then it is more convenient to have a public schedule. And it is probably interesting for people who are into Blue Blood to be able to see more of what we have going on.
I might have had to deal with more extreme cases of copycatitus than most, but I’m sure other people have had to deal with this too. I know some of you post public shooting calendars and some of you do not. I would love to hear what other people see as some of the pros and cons of doing this. Thanks!

I’m not a pro by any means, dealing more with the technical world of video. But I can’t think of a single pro to letting your schedule out. Maybe I’m missing something – but why would you want strangers to know where you’ll be shooting nude models?
Could you announce that you’re going to shoot me, so I can be filled with booze and cocaine?
i’d say i can’t believe anyone would do that… but i would be lying. that’s super shitty, but not entirely surprising. have you considered just posting dates and not locations? it might be a little more difficult to coordinate things than if you posted all of the information, but at least you wouldn’t have to worry about people hanging around your location while you shoot.
…or shooting in the same location after you do.
Would you believe that I rented a house shooting space for the month of December and the person I rented it from posted the fact that I would be there on his MySpace . . . and within days, the photog you shot with from GG paid to be camped out in basically the front hall of the place I’ll be shooting. Hopefully it won’t be too much of a drag, but I really wish I could just occasionally do something without feeling like some venture-capital-funded corporation was attempting to watch me make art in my living room.
Ba, ha, ha, ha. Maybe I will post a public calendar and some dates will be when I’m shooting and some will be when I figure my friends could use a party!
Oh, I don’t mean saying both who I am shooting and where. I think that would be, among other things, unsafe. But, for example, if I were sharing a shooting space, then posting a shooting schedule would let other artists know when it was booked up.
i suppose it all goes back to the flattery thing… you know, the one that irks, rankles and annoys more than it flatters. but supposedly is the sincerest form of flattery.
Ahhhh. Oh hey, sort of a side question but have you heard/been to the Kit Kat Club in Berlin? I went a few weeks ago. Holy shit. That’s all I have to say.
A club so renown, dozens of others around the globe have bit on their name. The Europeans really know how to have a pervy party.
Usually, I like increases in sincerity and yet somehow this one is unsatisfying.
I would definitly NOT give a specific location. Maybe just have ” outdoors” or “studio” listed.
okay, maybe it’s just me…
but i do post my schedule… i don’t post locations or even times… but i post my schedule because i do so many damn things, it makes me NOT seem like a flake when i have to go “sorry, i’m booked to do this, on this day…” but then again, my myspace page is also private and i KNOW everyone on my myspace page, with the exception of Foreigner, Johnny Cash, Roy Clark and Journey… muwhahahahahaha (you can hear me busting a gut here?) but you get the picture…
also, from another point of view…
i wouldn’t blame the other photographers for sabotaging your shoots… they didn’t hold guns up and kidnap your models under dire threats of violence to get fucked up…
i know when i have a photoshoot booked, whether paid/trade, i make sure to try to look my best… i enjoy my reputation of being someone who has their shit together… if going out and getting fucked up, is priority over making sure i meet my obligations, then maybe my priorites are off and i should repriortize my goals, ambitions and life…
maybe stating that will piss people off, but the most screwed up jerks can have the worst means of trying to sabotage, but UNLESS the models are willing to participate in that, it’s nothing but a thought of ill intent…
and personally, the only things that could possibly get me to throw off my game is black jack and hookers… i’m bad with both, but it’s so much fun… and if i go to do that before our shoot, well, i’d invite you to go with me and enjoy the fun…
mmmmmmmm… black jack and hookers!!!
Maybe we should do a black jack and hookers shoot . . . [ponders]
I think you know that not everyone is as responsible as you are. I agree with you that, if someone is being weak, they deserve some of the responsibility. But a lot of times these are models from out of town and they are not used to Los Angeles pressure or tactics or sometimes even availability of drugs. If a dickhead competitive photographer repeatedly pushes stuff on a model, yes, it would be nice if they were stronger or more perceptive as to why they were being offered quite so much, but I kind of think the manipulative dickhead who is plying them with substances to abuse gets some responsibility too. If they make a habit of trying to get models messed up before shoots, then I think all those partial responsibilities add up.
I think it’s a great idea if people can see who you are shooting when (just not where) on the MySpace calendar. Then people have something to look forward to when they see you’re shooting such and such model.
You can set it so ONLY friends can see it, of course anyone and everyone can request the add
Also, I find it much easier, in my case, to keep up my shoots/parties/meetings on my MySpace calendar. I found it much simpler than jotting down on pen on a calendar.
Heh, nobody knows better than you that friends only would not be very protected on there.
I was sort of thinking exactly what you said that people might enjoy seeing who was booked.
for shizzle, my nizzle… i will never turn down either… black jack and hookers… mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… but i want it done with Motorhead Ace of Spade’s in mind… (can you hear the opening guitar riff?)
i agree, i often worry about my friend’s with poor impulse control… yes, they do take responsiblity of their own actions… but at the same time, when i say “no” i mean “no” and when i make someone a promise, i stand by my word…
if i say i’m shooting with someone, nothing short of flood, fire or death will stop me from making my prior commitment… it’s not just responsible, it’s a sign of intregrity… and it’s, what i find to be lately in my travels, something that’s few and far in between…
i agree with you, you can be mad at someone pressuring alcohol on an recovering alcoholic, but no matter how poor that person’s impulse control may be, they must take some responsiblity for putting themselves in a bad position and to find out later, because of that, they don’t properly meet their prior commitments to you…
but hey, i’m a weird-o and people think i’m crazy for thinking like that…
see… intregrity… it’s become a foreign word…
Too true, trying to coordinate the shoot stuff I’m doing this month is making me crazy, especially for the days which require more than one person to come through.
yey! i was just looking at the BB myspace profile and i saw you’re posting booking dates!
the page looks HOTTER! it does add a special touch to it
we’ll see how it works out, hopefully positively =D
Something I hadn’t thought of is that apparently models like to have it kind of officially announced. I didn’t realize until I realized that some folks were really psyched about being listed.
Of course, AIM me asap if you see any really creepy messages. Fingers crossed that that doesn’t come up LOL
can you explain why i am redirected to your journal when i type in “www.ljdrama.com” into my URL bar?
Because it’s funny. Can you explain why you would type a drama site into your URL bar?
so you bought the domain and had it redirect to your LJ? i don’t care if it’s funny or not. i am interested in the technical details
well duh, who doesn’t like LJ drama? obviously you picked up on that
Cool, are you writing a dissertation on a random domain?
