Depeche Mode Wrong

Depeche Mode Wrong

by Amelia G : February 25th, 2009

Anna Evans pointed out that Depeche Mode has a video out for Wrong, the first single off their new album Sounds Of The Universe. They debuted the song at, I think, this year’s Echo music awards in Berlin, Germany. The Echo awards are given out each year based on the preceding year’s sales for both a German band or artist and an international band or artist in each category. In addition to Depeche Mode, the 2009 Echo awards included live performances from the Scorpions, U2, Katy Perry, Udo Lindenberg, Paul Potts, Razorlight, Helene Fischer, Silbermond, Sasha, Amy McDonald, and Die Toten Hosen, the last of which I believed to be a fictional band one of my degenerate punk rock friends made up when I first of them. Something about the name.

At any rate, as Anna Evans asked, what do you think of the new single from Depeche Mode? I’m always entertained by a combination of gloom pop and bad driving . . .

livejournal myspace twitter facebookI enjoyed LiveJournal because sometimes I have fragments of ideas which are not ready to be an official article, but it is nice to be able to start giving the words shape. I also felt like I could actually get to know people on there. Like, if I met someone at a rock show, we could exchange info and continue getting to know one another. I was extremely bugged, however, when I started seeing people out at night and I’d ask them how they were and be told to read their LJ. Why bother leaving the house if you refuse to have a conversation? Over time, people started taking LJ more and more seriously. This meant that, first of all, that, if I complained about work on there, some dick would take it as uber-personally and big deal as if I had sent out a press release and posted “I had a hard day because blah blah” to every high traffic site I operate. Secondly, there started to be too many people on my LJ list for me to keep up with what everyone was up to. Most disappointingly, treating LJ as a publishing platform rather than a diary meant that other people started writing less and less personal entries and more and more press release-like entries which had more to do with how they wish to be perceived than who they truly are.

At first, I hated MySpace because it seemed like a service whose only application was to allow other people access to my Rolodex without having to say “thanks for the introduction”. Then I also hated MySpace because it seemed to pull audience from LJ, which I had enjoyed the interactivity of, and MySpace didn’t really seem to . . .

Freedom, Punk, Erotica, Photography, Modeling, and Actually Expressing Something

by Amelia G : February 6th, 2009

submitting to bluebloodLast month, Blue Blood made a submissions site live for models and photographers and writer/photographers to submit to various Blue Blood projects, mostly BlueBlood.com and, to a lesser extent, BlueBlood.net. Blue Blood enjoys publishing a variety of body types, both male and female and in between. The most important thing for modeling for Blue Blood is that someone have that certain something, star quality, individuality, passion of personal expression to put in front of the lens. The original Blue Blood magazine in print featured exclusively interactive pictorials of people who were lovers in real life, who would be doing what they were doing, whether or not a camera was present. Non-feature photos in Blue Blood in print were generally related to specific entertainment news or how-to articles.

BlueBlood.com features pin-up and interactive erotica photo sets where all the images in a particular gallery will be of a person or couple, in one setting, in a series, which generally tells some sort of story. BlueBlood.net, of course, features articles and galleries about cool events, genre movies, goth-industrial music, punk nightclubs, interesting clothes, and similar fun stuff i.e. BlueBlood.net publishes photo galleries which are about a particular topic of interest. You would think that more photographers would shoot entertainment news, fashion, and music work than shoot nudes, but apparently that is not really the case. I’ve found that the most common question I get from interested photographers is what the galleries on BlueBlood.net should be about. Somehow, once the naked aspect is removed, many of them don’t know what the photos are about, other than that there is a photographer who happens to take pictures. I am baffled that there are people who consider themselves Photographers with a capital . . .
